Ok Father, but priest to priest I disagree somewhat. Yes, the Catholic Church, of which I am a member as well, does do a lot of good things, but so does any secular non-profit. In the 02134 zip code, I am surrounded by Harvard University Business School and down the Street from Boston University and WGBH Studios, those agencies and many in between my parish and each of them also do a lot of good.
We are not just called to be or do good, we are called to be holy. Cardinal Sarah in his new book emphasizes that and shows the requirement to be people of prayer — real, meditative prayer. Those bishops allegedly are not focused on being holy, obviously.
Cardinal Sarah is calling the Church back to prayer and holiness. I teach all the time to priests the importance of a daily holy hour — even on days off — which was taught by the Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen. The same goes for the laity although due to lifestyle they may have to do less than a holy hour.
So, I somewhat disagree with your premise, for the good we do is also often done by others and done better. We have been called to be a people of prayer that leads to holiness and nothing less.
