A look at other writers, the media and Hispanics, Chris Hedges and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters
Media Does Not Understand Hispanics
I do not endorse candidates, so this story does not constitute an endorsement. Fox News has a story that a congressional candidate complains that the media does not understand the Hispanic community. She is correct. They don’t understand the community because their target audience is middle and upper-middle-class residents of the major suburbs in their area. Most of these are white. There are middle and upper-middle-class black and Hispanic people who do not necessarily live in the target area of the media nor are they the target demographic.
One major issue the media does not understand is that Latin Americans are not a homogenous group. There are 22 Latin American Spanish-speaking countries. Many in the media see them as one group, they aren’t. Similarly, US citizens and residents are not Canadians and vice versa nor are we British, Australians, New Zealanders, etc.
So she is right. If we are preaching and do not understand the different cultures among Hispanic Catholics then we don’t understand Hispanic Catholics.
BTW do not get me started on the people in the media and others places who think they speak Spanish in Brazil.
Great Catholic Writers.
As you may or may not know, I am a writer of Catholic and other topics and I write on Medium and other places including here. You can find a lot of my writing here at Authory.com/rjcarr02134 and at Catholicism in the Modern World run by another Catholic Writer Michael Snellen. You can also find other Catholic writers including Jocelyn Soriano who also writes on Medium for Catholicism in the Modern World and her own page on Substack. Also Joseph Serwach is another great Catholic writer as well. You can find him on Medium. Enjoy them all.
Sergey Faldin, A Russian, Writes from London
Sergey Faldin writes here on Substack and on Medium. He is giving us his ex-patriot point of view of the actions of his native country of Russia. I always enjoy getting other perspectives. He is clearly against the aggression of his country so to read him gives you a perspective that you may find spoonfed to you by the mainstream media.
He gives an insider’s look at what Russians are saying about the current mobilization.
Chris Hedges’ Interviews Roger Waters of Pink Floyd on his Substack Channel.
Waters, Hedges explains, talks about his work from a time when music artists weren't silenced by commercial interests.
Today, many people are concerned about students being indoctrinated in schools. What happened to the days when people were singing “Another Brick in the Wall.”
In my generation which preceded that release, we all sang 'Alice Cooper’s “Schools Out Forever.”
Waters calls us to start speaking to one another as in a bar. This brings up the idea of reading Robert Putnam’s Bowling Alone which describes the current breakdown in community. It is not a new publication but still relevant.
