Homily Preview: Naaman the Syrian
There are two myths when it comes to preaching. One is you have to preach on the Gospel, actually, you do not. Second, you have to preach on all three readings, actually, you do not. Therefore, a homilist can choose what he thinks is best, some preach on the collect—the opening prayer, not the collection.
Naaman the Syrian (2Kings 5) the first reading this coming weekend is one of my favorite stories. Here we look at the power of this miracle. But do we need miracles anymore? Some to help us do God’s will but we don’t have to move mountains unless that is part of what will accomplish our task. (I touched on this last week.)
In my homily this week, I talk about why big miracles are no longer important and why little miracles strengthen our mission.
You can read a preview of the homily here.
